At graduation, students traditionally thank their mentor with a small gift. The beaming faces all around attest to the close-knit bonds and life-long skills woven by the Helping Hands Program.

Why do we need a needle arts mentoring program?
  • Many children have no trusted adult with whom they can bond

  • The needle arts can act as a positive alternative activity in addition to building self-esteem.
  • Teaching what you know to a youngster can change a life and make a difference.
What is my commitment?
  • To attend one two-hour training session
  • To meet with your youngster once a week for a one-hour session for six weeks
  • To teach a young boy or girl a needle art of your choice, I.E., knitting, crocheting, or needlepoint (materials will be provided if needed).
